Privacy Policy & Data Retention

HolyWhisper is local-first. By default, your journal, notes, and progress live only on your device. There is no account required to use the app, and nothing is uploaded to our servers unless you deliberately sign up for Cloud Sync. We never sell your data, and we display no ads.

1. What this policy covers

This policy covers the HolyWhisper mobile application (“App”) and the optional cloud synchronization service. “We” means the developer of HolyWhisper; “you” means the person using the App.

HolyWhisper runs in one of two modes:

  • Guest Mode (Default) — your database is stored locally on your device. No account is created, and nothing is uploaded to our servers.
  • Cloud Sync Mode (Opt-in) — syncs your journal, highlights, and plans securely via Firebase to other devices.

2. What is stored on your device

Your prayer journal entries, Bible notes, highlights, bookmarks, reading plans, and settings are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. In Guest Mode, this is the only copy that exists.

Any sensitive settings, such as authentication tokens, are held in your device’s secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) rather than the database.

3. What leaves your device, and only when

In Guest Mode, HolyWhisper makes no network calls with your personal data. Below is the complete set of optional features that can transmit data:

3.1 Optional Cloud Sync

If you register an account, HolyWhisper synchronizes your journal entries, highlights, notes, and reading plans to Google Firebase database nodes. We hold this data solely to provide you with access on other devices.

3.2 Voice Dictation (Microphone Access)

If you enable microphone permissions in the Prayer Journal, dictation is processed **locally on your device** by your operating system’s speech-recognition service. Audio data is never sent to or stored on HolyWhisper servers.

3.3 Screen Time / Holy Focus App Blocking

Holy Focus uses Apple’s **Screen Time API** (FamilyControls framework) on iOS to block selected apps during prayer time. All app restrictions and block rules run **locally on-device**. We do NOT collect, analyze, or transmit information about which apps you block or when you try to open them.

3.4 Analytics and Crash Reporting

Anonymous crash reports (device model, stack trace, and OS version) are collected via Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix bugs. You can turn this off in Settings.

4. What we never do

  • We do not sell, rent, or broker your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not show ads, and there are no marketing tracking SDKs inside the App.
  • We do not build advertising profiles based on your prayers or Bible reading habits.

5. Account and Data Deletion

In Guest Mode, uninstalling the App or using the “Clear All Data” option in Settings wipes everything. If you created a Cloud Sync account, tapping “Delete Account” in Settings permanently erases your login credentials, email address, profile fields, and synced journal/reading progress from Firebase.

6. Children

HolyWhisper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created a Cloud Sync account, please contact us and we will delete it.
